Daniel Bernstein of the University of Illinois Chicago believes that NIST is hiding the extent of the NSA’s involvement in creating post-quantum cryptography (PQC) standards. He also argues that NIST made intentional or accidental errors in its security calculations for the new standards. NIST denies these accusations and claims that the Kyber512 algorithm, whose flaws Bernstein cited, meets “level one” security criteria.

NIST is currently conducting a public consultation on PQC algorithms, and final standards are planned to be published soon.
