Tablet and foldable device users now switch to split-screen mode when opening links and attachments in Gmail. Clicking a link in an email opens a Chrome Custom Tab in the side window, preventing the link from taking up the entire screen.

The left half of the screen displays the Inbox folder, and the right half displays the text of the letter. Links to Google Docs and YouTube open in their respective apps on the right side of the screen. If the user slightly reduces the size of the web page, Gmail returns to the tablet interface with three columns of information.

This split-screen feature is now available on larger screen devices such as Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet.
