The Bank of Russia is going to create a closed “data room” with expanded statistics from the regulator, Vedomosti newspaper reports citing a letter from the Central Bank to Russian scientific institutions and universities. Only these institutions will have access to the room.

It is not planned to create a separate website or a service on the website, access to data can only be obtained physically, in a specially equipped room of the Central Bank. The alienation of information will be impossible.

Access to the room will be provided only to research centers and universities. In the letter, the mega-regulator asks scientific institutes and universities what data from the financial statements of supervised companies they need to carry out scientific activities.

GV Plekhanov Denis Domashchenko (received a letter from the Central Bank) noted that the investigation requires reports on payments, deposits and credit operations in regional and federal sections, as well as a breakdown of the industry of bank clients.

Researchers also need inflation monitoring data from the Central Bank, source codes for decision-making models in the field of monetary policy, and parameters for managing the country’s international reserves.
