Once upon a time (a long time ago) I paid for a YouTube premium subscription every month for two “buns”: the absence of advertising and the ability to listen to videos in the background on a locked iPhone.

And if in modern realities, without a premium subscription, there are no advertisements in videos, then with the background mode it is much worse. You launch an interesting thing, press the iPhone video lock button and that’s it, the video freezes.

But this limitation can also be overcome, and without any included applications, quick commands and other “crutches”. Everything is very simple and below I’ll tell you how to listen to YouTube on a locked iPhone without a premium subscription in Russia.

Turn on YouTube in the background using Safari

You found it in the YouTube mobile app, which you don’t have to watch, but you want to listen to the video on the go. Do the following:

1. Click on the “Share” button, then “Copy link”

2. Opens Safari, provides the copied link, and follows it

3. In wireless mode, click on the “Aa” button and select “Request desktop website”

4. Close the video on the entire screen and at the bottom of the top remote, click on the picture-in-picture icon.

5. Press the iPhone lock button

After this, a mini-player will be displayed on the lockscreen, on which you need to press the “Play” button to start the audio track from the video. Put your smartphone in your pocket and listen to YouTube on the go.

Everything is the same, but with screenshots:

This feature works with all iPhones and all more or less current versions of iOS.

Listen to interviews, concerts, podcasts and anything from YouTube absolutely legally, free of charge, without registration or SMS 🙂
