This major update comes a full month after the surprise launch of the SteamVR 2.0 beta in September. “With this release, we are bringing all the innovations and exciting features of the Steam platform to virtual reality,” Valve said in a statement.

The new version of the platform has been preparing for release for a long time – in 2019, Valve stated in its annual report that it was “working hard” on the update. Some of the main innovations in SteamVR 2.0 include:

  • Many of the existing Steam and Steam Deck features are now integrated into SteamVR.
  • Updated keyboard with dual cursor, new languages, emoji and theme support.
  • Steam Chat and Voice Chat integration.
  • An improved store highlighting new and popular VR releases.
  • Easy access to Steam notifications.

Interestingly, the update was released without any announcements about the new hardware. Although there are rumors that Valve is working on some kind of new VR headset, it is not yet clear what form it will take.

In September, a mysterious device passed RF certification in South Korea; This could indicate that a new device will be announced soon, whether it’s a VR headset or something else.
