Fake AirPods are a real headache. Externally, they are almost impossible to implement from the original, which is why various scammers use them. For some, these headphones just fit the form factor, but they don’t want to overpay for the brand.

Lumafield’s John Bruner shared a new comparison between long AirPods Pro and fake ones. An important leash, think about why you should avoid such accessories.

Here are pictures of the headphones:

On the left open AirPods Pro, the rest are fakes

The three main differences between fakes and the original are:

• Batteries
• Motherboard
• Build quality

As the expert noted, each earphone of real AirPods contains carefully designed batteries that fit tightly into a compact form factor and provide optimal energy efficiency.

Both fake AirPods contain lithium-ion batteries, which are not only less complex in design, but also less safe. Rectangular batteries are literally squeezed into round spaces and are not adjusted to size.

Fake AirPods have much simpler electronics, assembled from ready-made components. This leaves “less room for functionality.” Counterfeits have fewer microphones and control circuits, which degrades sound quality.

Full video comparison:

One of the fakes does not support wireless charging at all (there are no coils on the X-ray scans), the other has wireless charging coils, but does not have the magnets that attach real AirPods keys to the Apple Watch charger.

By the way, fake AirPods even use internal weights that do not reveal any other function than to imitate the weight of the original product. In this way, scammers compensate for low-quality materials. [9to5]
