The next version of HarmonyOS NEXT will be entirely based on the company’s own development and will abandon the use of traditional AOSP (Android Open Source Project) code.

This means that the new system will only support applications developed specifically for HarmonyOS using the Pill installation package format.

This step is part of the company’s strategy to develop and popularize the operating system.

In response to these changes, many major Internet companies, including NetEase, Meituan, ByteDance and DingTalk, began to actively recruit specialists to develop applications for HarmonyOS.

In addition, the launch of some applications for the Huawei system has already been announced. For example, on November 6, Tongcheng Travel announced the start of development of a local application for it and planned to complete the development of the main version by the end of 2023.

Huawei’s decision reflects the company’s commitment to independence and developing its own technologies in the ever-changing mobile technology market.
