Yandex taught Alice to understand and speak Kazakh. In the Yandex mobile browser, you can ask the voice assistant about the weather and ask questions, the press service of the technology company said.
For Kazakh language support to be available, you need to update Yandex.Browser and click the “Change language” button in the “Alice” menu.
“Alice” will tell you about local attractions, climate and terrain features. You can ask the virtual assistant, for example, what is the height of the Khan Tengri mountain, the press service clarifies examples of queries. In the future, the number of scenarios for using “Alice” in Kazakh will be expanded.
Editors and native speakers were hired to train Alice. She was trained with a huge amount of data, thousands of hand-translated conversations and hundreds of hours of audio recordings.
As the director of Alice and the company’s smart devices, Sergey Melnik, explains, support for the Kazakh language by the voice assistant is an important step for the development of the service in the republic.
The press service added that Yandex is actively localizing its services in Kazakhstan. Previously, the company introduced in-browser video translation.
In August, the Kazakh registrar separated the Yandex.kz domain, so Yandex.Kazakhstan stopped opening in the republic. After this, it became known about the plans of a Russian technology company to move Yandex.kz to the territory of Kazakhstan.
The Ministry of Digital Development of Kazakhstan granted Yandex a postponement until December 31, 2023.
