In the first six months of 2023, the number of transactions by Russians with real estate in Spain reached the level of 2013-2014, according to the report of the Notarial Statistical Information Center, cited by RBC.

Russian citizens set 10-year record in number of real estate transactions in Spain

Today, Spain is one of the few EU countries that still issues golden visas in exchange for investments. Montenegro previously granted citizenship through investment, but earlier this year the country completed its “golden passport” program.

The volume of transactions for the purchase or sale of real estate in Spain by Russian citizens in January-June increased by 50.2% year-on-year. In just six months, the Russians participated in 2,137 such transactions.

These indicators were reached for the first time since 2013-2014. In the second half of 2013, Russians carried out 2,426 real estate transactions, and in the first six months of 2014 – 2,573.

Furthermore, in most cases it involves the acquisition of objects and not their sale, says Anna Larina, director of the foreign real estate department of the consulting firm NF Group.

The total number of real estate transactions carried out by foreigners in Spain in the first six months fell to 67,980, 7.5%.

An increase in the number of transactions was noted between citizens of the Russian Federation, Ukraine and the United States – 50.2, 41.6 and 13.6%, respectively.

However, Russians, Ukrainians and Americans are far behind UK citizens, who remain leaders in the volume of such transactions.
