The Ministry of Digital Development proposes to include in the national project “Data Economy” an initiative that involves the creation of a national platform for storing and processing information from all urban video surveillance systems in the Russian Federation.

There are currently 1.2 million CCTV cameras in Russian cities. And only half of them are connected to centralized systems in the regions. The government does not have access to private cameras.

The project also provides for the mandatory connection of access cameras to the platform.

All videos will be analyzed using the face and image detection method. The cost of developing the concept is 12 billion rubles.

The ministry clarified to Kommersant that “certain categories of owners” will for now install and connect video cameras to their accounts.

The Ministry of Digital Development hopes that in 2030 the number of cameras in the country will grow to 5 million, and all of them will be connected to AI systems. With their help, the government will be able to increase crime detection by 30%. [Коммерсантъ]
