The Russian Post will have to prepare a scenario to increase its efficiency using internal reserves. The company has been instructed to present the results of its research on this topic by the first quarter of 2024. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, quoted by Interfax.

Russian Post instructed to develop measures to improve efficiency using internal reserves

The minister, answering questions from journalists, said that the focus will now be on increasing the internal efficiency of the Post Office.

“That is, let’s try to examine more deeply whether Pochta itself has additional reserves and what they are,” Shadayev said.

He clarified that it could be considered an option to reduce costs. He could also be working to improve efficiency by offering new services.

As a source previously reported to RBC, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin rejected the Russian Post plan, in particular the point about introducing payments for infrastructure from large markets.

The story around the Russian Post has been developing since the end of September, when the Federation Council urged not to ignore the organization’s financial hole. Pochta herself then prepared a list of measures to overcome the crisis situation, which included state support.

For example, Correos proposed closing unprofitable branches and reducing delivery frequency. The company also called for the introduction of an infrastructure payment for large e-commerce platforms of 0.5% of turnover.

Pochta also stated then that he needed an additional capitalization of 117 billion rubles.
