Sam Altman CEO at OpenAI returns to his seat and Microsoft now occupies a seat on the company’s board. Structural changes were announced last Wednesday (29).

Three of the four members who voted to remove Altman were removed from the board. Microsoft then began taking part in the group, taking on the role of a “non-voting observer.”

In the note, the OpenAI CEO shared his plans as company commander. From the manager’s perspective there will be three priorities:

  • Continue to develop and launch products for consumers, demonstrating the possibilities that AI can enable;
  • Create a board with a more diverse perspective by improving the company’s command structure.

In another internal statement, board member Bret Taylor reinforced his commitment to bringing together a more diverse group. He highlighted efforts to increase OpenAI’s organizational stability, as well as strengthening the company’s structure to ensure security for customers, employees and partners.

Still in the document, Altman reiterated that he held no grudge against Ilya Sutskever, one of OpenAI’s co-founders, who voted to leave the company (and later regretted it).

“Although Ilya is no longer on the board, we look forward to continuing our working relationship and are discussing how he can continue his work at OpenAI,” the CEO said.
