A study conducted by Samsungconfirms some trends Generation Z and their relationship with artificial intelligence and how they apply it in practice at work.

Based on a survey of Generation Z (n=5,048) and Generation Z (n=2,004) in France, Germany, Korea, the UK and the US. The AI-Preneur Effect 2024: How Gen Z and Next-Gen Tech Are Changing Culture labor reinforces the trend toward increased business activity among this generation.

Nearly one in two full-time Gen Z professionals said the reality of their jobs fell short of expectations. That may explain why 73% of Gen Zers dream of starting a side hustle, and many have already been looking for opportunities outside of their day jobs in the past year.

What’s even more surprising, however, is the important role AI is playing in the growing gig culture. For Gen Z, time is one of the biggest barriers to running or starting a side business, and many are using AI to overcome this problem.

The entrepreneurs surveyed included personal trainers, content creators, and artists, among others. While their professional fields varied, most were in agreement when it came to their use of AI. Nearly 70% of Gen Zers said they found AI to be an indispensable resource when they needed help at work, even more than the majority of the 62% of the global cohort who reported having the same mindset.

Among those who use AI in their daily lives, secondary fraudsters use it to summarize documents or meeting minutes, conduct research or find inspiration, and develop new written or visual content. Most Gen Z respondents are optimistic about the potential of AI and also favor AI tools built into devices they already use, such as smartphones and PCs.

“These findings show that AI has become essential for young entrepreneurs and provide insight into how technology can open up, rather than close off, new skills, new passions, and ultimately new career paths,” said Stephanie Choi, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “Realizing this kind of potential is the driving force behind the cutting-edge innovations in our latest Galaxy Book AI computers, and this is just the beginning of what’s to come as we continue to unlock the transformative potential of AI for even more users.”

Many young entrepreneurs (40%) rely on PCs to run a successful side business, and even more (83%) recognize the importance of seamless connectivity between devices. Earlier this year, Samsung ushered in a new era of possibilities with Galaxy AI built into PCs that intuitively connect to Galaxy phones, delivering the creativity, productivity, and mobility needed for this new work lifestyle.
