Foreign passports of Russians with errors and typos began to be confiscated at the border. Nothing like this existed before, notes the Association of Russian Tour Operators. So far he knows of two cases of passport confiscation; In one of them, the document was withdrawn due to the lack of a letter in the name of the city.
Foreign passports of Russian citizens began to be confiscated at the border. Maya Lomidze, executive director of the Association of Russian Tour Operators, told RBC about this.
So far the association only has information about two cases of passport confiscation. In the first, the document was withdrawn due to a typographical error in the name, in the second, due to a missing letter in the name of the city.
“We are closely monitoring the situation, since nothing like this has happened so far,” Lomidze said.
A new law on a unified list of reasons for invalidating passports came into force in December.
The law, in particular, requires citizens who are prohibited from leaving Russia to deposit their foreign passports. The law also invalidates documents that have been lost, expired, or have changed the owner’s personal data.
