This week, following the tradition of the Russian New Year’s rental, the premiere of a new part of the popular cartoon series from the Melnitsa studio took place.
The twelfth part is called “Three Heroes and the Navel of the Earth.” We have already attended the premiere and are ready to share our impressions.
Is there anything to see here? Let’s figure it out.
Fresh story, old problems
What is the cartoon about?: from fairy tales we know what happened a long time ago, but what happened even a long time ago? Three rich heroes have to find out the answer to this question, even though they didn’t ask it. Something happened here that’s crazy!
Gorynych suddenly finds a dinosaur, and Alyosha Popovich with the Prince and the horse Julius literally fall through the ground. Now we urgently need to figure out how to return them back to the future. And most importantly, find out who or what the mysterious Navel of the Earth is.
In this part, the creators thought: if ancient prescriptions tell about ancient times, then what secrets hide an even more distant past? And they sent everyone’s favorite heroes back to the Jurassic period.
The new story begins with Gorynych discovering a dinosaur, and Alyosha Popovich, the Prince and the horse Julius falling through the earth into the era of dinosaurs. The task of the heroes is not only to survive in this strange and dangerous world, but also to unravel the mystery of the Navel of the Earth in order to return home.
The Three Heroes franchise combines humor, adventure and an authoritative look at national folklore. And, of course, the crazy horse Julius. Usually it is he who drives the plot. This time too, it was his curiosity and perseverance that led to new adventures for familiar heroes.
In other words, everything is familiar and recognizable.
But now the transfer of action to prehistoric times creates before the heroes and spectators of the world complete unknown data about dangers and amazing creatures. Add this freshness in plot and scale allows for the traditional adventures of heroes.
But instead of the promised deep immersion into a new environment, what happened was a superficial adventure that didn’t add any new character development or story. The mysterious Navel of the Earth, which was supposed to be a central plot point, remains unsolved, contributing to the story with more confusion than a meaningful twist.
The absence of a real enemy makes the story boring
Typically, the cartoon series was remembered for its charismatic and colorful villains. However, The Navel of the Earth lacks a strong antagonist. The character of “The Navel of the Earth”, despite this, presents an interesting situation. does not reveal itself and leaves no trace of discovery in the hearts of the audience. The lack of a prominent enemy reduces the horrifying edge and makes the heroes being tested less memorable.
In previous stories, interaction between heroes was one of the main features of the series, but this time they were all shown separately. According to the plot, the heroes are scattered throughout the ancient world.
Someone deals with the problems of local wildlife and communicates with the silent Deer, someone meets with their ancestors, someone is simply trying to save their dragon skin. It sounds interesting, but in reality everything looks very simple and expensive.
The humor is very childish, adults will be bored
There seem to be adventures, but watching them is just boring. At least for an adult. The humor of the story is lame on both legs. He continues to follow the entire line of the series, discussing funny situations, ridiculous dialogues and comical, infuriating places, characters.
Adult viewers may have been disappointed by the lack of more subtle, intelligent or satirical humor.
One of the shortcomings of the cartoon is complete lack of relevant and witty pop culture references, which could cater to an adult environment. And at a time when many animated films cleverly integrate such references to create an extra layer of humor and efficiency, “Navel Earth” seems to lag behind this change, the content of the content is more primitive.
The cartoon is simple and monotonousWe do not allow restrictions that could interest adults in their views, leaving them without special emotions and interesting moments.
There was a group of first-graders in the audience, and perhaps the most disappointing thing for the creators was the lack of laughter and cheerful exclamations from the children. They watched the cartoon, but without visible delight or passion. Well, adventure. Well, dinosaurs. Well, OK.
conclusions
Who should watch?: “Three Heroes and the Navel of the Earth” is most suitable for the youngest nature, which can still enjoy bright animation and simple plots without traditional meanings and simple characters. Kids who aren’t looking for complex stories can enjoy basic humor with this funny cartoon.
Who might miss: Adult viewers as well as older kids and teens looking for cartoons, pop culture references, creative humor, or a deep plot for frustration. The lack of layers and lack of dynamic plotting can make for boring viewing in a demanding situation.
Is the franchise finally running out of steam?: It seems that “Three Heroes” is starting to lose its original sincerity and innovation. Despite trying to bring novelty through time travel and dinosaur encounters, the series feels tired and dull in its creative new technological approach to re-engage the viewer.
If the franchise wants to maintain its relevance and appeal, perhaps it’s time for bolder changes and a refresh of the concept. Bring on the new franchise!
