According to the MacroPolo report, today the global share of scientists and researchers from China in the field of artificial intelligence is 50%. These are people working directly in China. The USA has its own experts in the field of artificial intelligence, including research – 18%.
The situation is similar when it comes to hiring at American companies and tech startups: 38% comes from Chinese experts, while Americans themselves make up 37%. But here we also need to take the trend into account: Just three years ago, the proportion of Chinese in American companies was no more than 27%, and the proportion of Americans was 37%.
Commenting on the report, Matt Sheehan, a leading expert at the Carnegie Endowment, said, “The data shows how important Chinese-born researchers are to the competitiveness of artificial intelligence in the United States.”
