The US Department of Justice is at the stage of completing an antitrust investigation against Apple.

The agency is likely to file a request against the company in early 2024. It will look, in part, at how Apple’s control over hardware and software “locks consumers out of the Apple ecosystem and makes it difficult to compete.”

Company representatives met several times with members of the Ministry of Justice during the investigation. Some of the retrospective topics:

• Why Apple Watch works better with iPhone than other smartwatches

• Why Apple blocks competitors trying to work with iMessage

• why Apple is blocking other financial institutions that want to implement their analogues of Apple Pay on iPhone

• whether Apple favors its own apps and services over third-party services.

• Why Apple does not allow cloud gaming services in the App Store

• how Apple limits iPhone location service to devices that compete with AirTag

• how transparent apps are when collecting advertising data

• Application selection for applications distributed in the App Store.

The Ministry of Justice has not yet made a final decision regarding the proposed lawsuit against Apple. Apple and Microsoft are separate large companies that did not end up in court due to their business practices. [The New York Times]
