The Federation of Computer Sports (FKS) of Russia denied information about the suspension of membership in the IESF (International Cybersports Federation). They stressed that the organization is still part of the structure, that the IESF is only trying to prohibit performances under the Russian flag.
Previously, kyiv sent a complaint to the IESF, pointing out the work of the FCC in the territories controlled by the RF Armed Forces. The Ukrainian side pointed out that this fact violates the provision of the IESF on the sovereignty of other states.
“After careful consideration of the facts, the IESF board of directors held a secret vote and decided to suspend membership of the FCC of Russia,” a statement on the IESF website reads.
The Computer Sports Federation stressed that there is no talk of suspending membership.
“Here it should be noted that our membership has not been suspended, we remain members of the IESF. Our foreign colleagues from the IESF secretariat are trying not to remove our players from the international arena, but to once again ban us from competing under the Russian flag, replacing it with the IESF flag. At the moment, the decision they have made is temporary and will remain so until the congress of the International Federation,” quotes the president of the FCC of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Smith, in the press service.
He also explained that this step will not affect the participation of Russian players, since the decision to exclude from the IESF can only be made in the congress by majority.
The organization hopes that the next Congress will make a fair evaluation of the situation and eliminate the restrictions that the FCC considers illegal.
About two years ago, the IESF banned Russian athletes from participating in international tournaments under the national flag, but lifted this sanction in the summer of 2023.
