The Yobidoyobi sushi chain is obliged to change its corporate name, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation confirmed. This was reported by the Telegram channel “Arbitration Court of the Krasnoyarsk Territory”.
Previously, decisions on this issue were made by the arbitration of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the court of appeal and the court of intellectual property rights.
The company was refused to submit a complaint for consideration at a court session of the judicial chamber for economic disputes of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. There is no provision to appeal this decision.
In April 2023, the Arbitration Court of the Krasnoyarsk Territory recognized that the name “Yobidoyobi” was contrary to public interest and moral principles and ordered its change.
The interdistrict inspection of the Federal Tax Service complained about the brand.
The tax office insisted that the brand name “Yobidoyobi” “is consistent with blasphemous words.”
The company itself pointed out that its name is a transliteration of the phrase “The day of the week is Saturday” in Japanese. The court did not support these arguments.
