Yandex is looking for an operational engineer in China with experience in the development of electronic control units (ECU). The company is selecting a specialist to collaborate with a certain “independent Chinese design office.” Kommersant writes about this based on data from the company’s LinkedIn account.
The publication found information about the search for a candidate in the city of Suzhou in Jiangsu province. From the description it follows that the specialist will collaborate with a local design office. The company is now working with him to create an ECU for the “fifth generation robotaxi.”
ECUs are integrated computer systems, each of them is responsible for the operation of a separate subsystem of the machine: engine, suspension, etc.
Yandex itself told the publication that it was developing a “universal solution” for autonomous driving. It is suitable for use in different machines.
“In this regard, we are considering several platforms to create the next generation of autonomous vehicles,” the company said.
Autonomous vehicles are equipped with an autonomous transport control unit and driver assistance systems. Today, these systems are produced by Intel, Nvidia, Continental and Hitachi.
In 2020, Yandex introduced the fourth generation of robotaxis based on the Hyundai Sonata. Its ECU, according to Yandex, was being finalized together with Hyundai Mobis. In 2019, Yandex and Hyundai Mobis signed an agreement of intent to create a platform for autonomous vehicles.
Nothing is known about the status of Hyundai Mobis in Russia following the entry of the Russian Armed Forces into the territory of Ukraine in 2022. At the same time, Hyundai Motor is currently selling its plant in St. Petersburg. The buyer is Art-Finance.
