Today we all depend on the Internet in one way or another, many work processes are generally difficult to imagine without access to the network, but are Russians ready to give up their presence on the World Wide Web outside the office? The Rabota.ru portal decided to check this and conducted an online survey of more than 3.5 thousand users of the service from all regions of Russia.

Only 14% of Russians are ready to completely abandon the Internet outside of working hours

As a result, when asked if they were willing to give up their online presence outside of working hours, the majority (48%) responded that they could only partially do so. Interestingly, 6% reported that “they would like to, but they can’t” (due to work – 30%, family – 33%, other external circumstances).

A third of respondents (32%) do not believe they should be denied Internet access for any reason. At the same time, respondents who are ready to completely abandon the network in their free time (only 14%) found quite important reasons for this: they believe that:

  • Technologies stimulate laziness and procrastination: 45%,
  • Screens damage vision: 27%,
  • Gadgets have a negative effect on sleep: 22%
  • Bad posture: 18%.

Among the arguments there was also a financial factor (“expensive service fees”: 7% are willing to abandon the network to save money) and a subjective assessment of their excessive attachment to surfing the Internet (“I spend too much time on the computer/ smartphone” – 44%).

Internet addicts (who also know that they spend a lot of time online) accounted for 8% of those unwilling to stop exploring the World Wide Web in their free time. The rest, who do not consider themselves addicted, have no intention of limiting themselves, because they consider their presence on the Internet to be an important part of their life (45%) or they rarely use the Internet anymore (even at work, 22%).
