The Xiaomi Mi GetApps app store contains about 10 copies of the Russian RuStore store. The services imitate the icon of a Russian store, but do not implement its functionality: when you try to download a Russian app store, a calculator, 2GIS maps or a collection of screensavers are installed on the device, Vedomosti discovered.

Xiaomi App Store is full of RuStore fakes

The same problem exists on Google Play. These programs were published by developers not associated with RuStore, says the leading analyst of the Digital Risk Protection department of FAC.CT Evgeny Egorov.

For example, in one case the developer appears as Vargas-Martínez on GetApps, in the other – Biik olo. At the same time, the description of the applications says that they perform exactly the functions of a Russian store.

The RuStore imitation is not necessarily malicious. These spam apps do not contain malware and are required to display in-app advertisements. They simply contribute money to developers for the number of videos played or banners displayed.

  • RuStore is developing VK together with the largest Russian IT companies with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development. The Russian app market opened the console to all foreign developers in July 2023.
