Turkish Denizbank sent letters to Russian clients requesting documents confirming their right to reside in Turkey. RBC writes about this referring to two intermediaries who help Russian citizens open cards in local banks.
The headquarters did not explain why the bank needed that data. Denizbank did not officially notify its clients about the plans to close the Russians’ accounts.
Intermediary Sergei Ovsyannikov suggested that clients without a residence permit may have their accounts closed due to lack of balance. It is still unknown what the minimum amount in the account should be. According to him, the bank has not recently opened accounts for new clients from Russia.
The publication’s second interlocutor, Elena Chernyshova, claims that Denizbank started warning its clients about a week ago. She explains the new requirements for updating data: Many clients bought real estate to obtain citizenship or a residence permit.
He noted that there are no plans to close accounts of active clients, but accounts that do not have movement of funds or balances may be blocked.
