In Windows 11, Paint may gain support for neural processing units (NPUs), which will give access to much more advanced features based on artificial intelligence.

The NPU is a special chip that processes AI and machine learning tasks directly on the device. This provides greater speed and efficiency compared to using cloud services or traditional CPUs.

A “NPUDetect” file has been discovered in the new version of Paint, indicating that NPUs can be detected and used. Considering Cocreator’s existing AI mode, this could mean integrating new features such as:

  • Advanced editing tools: for example, smart object selection, automatic image enhancement, noise reduction, etc.
  • Real effects in real time: image stylization, color changes, filters and much more; All of this will happen without delay.

It is worth noting that these are still only assumptions based on the files found. Microsoft hasn’t made any official announcements about new Paint features.
