Starlink cuts price in Spain and scares operators

In the case of Starlink, the price of a standard service in Spain is currently 40 euros per month, when previously it cost 65 euros. The plan still offers unlimited high-speed connections ranging from 50 to 200 Mbps and low latency almost anywhere in the country.

On the hardware side, the antenna, router and accessories needed to have Starlink in your home are now cheaper too. Interested parties must pay 225 euros per set., when before it was 450 euros. Let us remember that in the middle of last year, Musk’s team reduced the price to 199 euros, but this was a temporary offer.

It is true that, despite the new price drop, Starlink is still more expensive than competing offerings available in Spain. Returning to Movistar Satélite, its most competitive option with download speeds of 200 Mbps and upload speeds of 10 Mbps costs only 35 euros and includes all the necessary equipment. However, this option is only available to those living in the eligible zone defined by the Single Rural Demand Programme. However, it’s clear that the gap between what Elon Musk offers and his competitors is closing, and that’s good news for consumers.

Starlink cuts prices again in Spain

Starlink has been available in Spain for just over two years and has become significantly cheaper to use since its debut. Let us recall that at the beginning of 2022, the equipment necessary to connect to the satellite network deployed by SpaceX cost 499 euros. A monthly payment of €99 was required, plus an additional charge of €9 for regulatory reasons. As a result, the monthly cost of the service exceeded 100 euros. Fortunately, this is no longer the case.

So, the plans for Starlink in Spain:

• Standard (fixed location): Unlimited traffic for 40 euros per month. Equipment cost: 225 euros.
• Priority (fixed location): Unlimited data plus priority packages from 40 GB to 6 TB, from 93 euros per month to 1060 euros per month respectively. Equipment cost (high performance): 2389 euros.
• Mobile (On the Move): Unlimited mobile data on land in exchange for €59 per month for regional mobility or €230 per month for global mobility. Equipment cost: 225 euros.

Without a doubt, the bid to offer satellite internet in Spain is becoming increasingly competitive, and Starlink has just played a very important role. Let’s remember that Elon Musk’s people are also working on providing the ability to connect directly to smartphones, although at the moment this is only being tested in the US.
