A government commission headed by Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev took the initiative to classify the use of information technologies as aggravating circumstances in the commission of crimes. Izvestia writes about this.

The Investigative Committee and the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been tasked with studying the introduction of this provision into the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The departments must report to the government commission on the work carried out by December 1, 2024.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a record 677,000 crimes were committed in Russia using information technologies by the end of 2023. More than half of these crimes are classified as serious or especially serious.
