In a recent pilot study, researchers examined whether apple cider vinegar reduced weight, blood sugar, and lipid levels (cholesterol and triglycerides). The results showed that yes, it was possible. But this requires more than just consuming this product every day.

A team of scientists from Lebanon conducted a double-blind, randomized clinical trial involving obese and overweight youth. People’s ages ranged from 12 to 25.

Participants were asked to drink 5, 10 or 15 ml of apple cider vinegar diluted with 250 ml of water before meals every morning for 12 weeks. At the same time, the control group consumed a placebo for the same period of time.

After three months, drinking apple cider vinegar was found to be associated with a significant decrease in body weight and body mass index. People who drank this drink lost an average of 6-8 kilos and their BMI values ​​decreased by 2.7-3 points, depending on the dose. Hip and waist circumferences also decreased significantly.

Additionally, the study authors reported significant decreases in blood sugar, triglyceride, and cholesterol levels in the groups consuming apple cider vinegar.

Studies on laboratory animals have also shown that the acetic acid in apple cider vinegar may affect the expression of genes involved in burning fat for energy.

However, apple cider vinegar can also be harmful to your health. For example, because it is acidic, it can destroy tooth enamel. To minimize this risk, dentists recommend rinsing your mouth with tap water after drinking acidic beverages and starting to chew sugar-free gum to stimulate saliva production. Also, avoid brushing your teeth immediately after drinking these drinks and drink through a straw.
