The company disclosed the investigation in a document filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday and cited a letter from the FTC on Thursday.

Reddit, like many other social platforms, has shown interest in deals in which AI companies pay for access to databases of human-written text so that AI models can improve their ability to speak, answer questions, and produce written work and images.

About a month ago, Reddit announced a $60 million deal with Google to do just that. The deal will also give Reddit access to Google’s artificial intelligence models to improve the site’s internal search and other features. Reddit declined to comment or answer questions about the deal beyond a written statement.
