Experts said autonomous devices and routers that can switch to a backup connection will help prevent Internet problems in a smart home. Citylink explained that a smart home system is a set of devices working together via Wi-Fi or the more advanced Zigbee protocol. If the internet goes down, device management becomes unavailable, but Zigbee allows them to operate independently.

The hub, which is the brain of the system, maintains its “smart home” functionality even when the internet is turned off. Citylink noted that the hubs are integrated into smart devices or can be purchased separately. Additionally, M.Video-Eldorado recommends using an uninterruptible power supply and a backup Internet source to protect the smart home system from operational failures. Routers with a function of automatic switching between wired Internet and mobile networks can also be useful in case of connection problems.
