China has launched new procurement guidelines for government agencies. In particular, they prohibit the purchase of computers and servers for officials with Intel and AMD processors.
The government agency was instructed to purchase PCs with “safe and reliable” processors and operating systems. These could be Chinese Huawei or Phytium processors.
Instead of Windows, a Chinese PC can run on the Linux operating system.
The ban was intended to reduce dependence on foreign technology and, in addition, to bring attention to domestic industry.
According to analysts at Zheshang Securities, spending on replacing IT infrastructures in the government, party organs and eight major industries in China will cost $91 billion until 2027. [Financial Times]
