“You can now easily access auto-generated highlights from any video,” said YouTube’s Neil Mohan. This feature is part of the company’s commitment to “continue improving the user experience on TVs.”

White dots in the red video progress bar indicate the presence of highlights. Use the left/right buttons on the remote to navigate through a carousel of captioned thumbnails.

Then click “Up” to view highlights and quickly cycle through tagged clips.

As an example, YouTube cites an almost 3-hour video from the Olympics. Highlights here show each attempt and descriptions include the athlete’s name and country.

This feature is an alternative for video creators to manually create sections.
