In macOS Sequoia, Apple will simplify this process by changing the requirements to match the final app install size + small buffer, as noted in the macOS 15 beta 2 release notes. This change is especially useful for users who download large apps and games frequently. Write to media larger than 10 GB in size.
While users will still need ample storage, lowering the initial requirements will significantly lighten the load, especially for MacBook Airs with limited storage capacity like 128GB or 256GB.
macOS Sequoia is scheduled for general availability this fall, with a developer preview available now and a public beta planned for next month.
