At its next meeting, the Finnish government will consider the issue of permanently closing checkpoints on the border with Russia. This issue will be discussed at a meeting of the Finnish Cabinet of Ministers.

The Finnish Ministry of the Interior proposed closing border checkpoints with Russia “until further notice.”

Finland closed the checkpoint on the border with Russia for the first time in November 2023. The restriction on the operation of the points has been extended several times, at the moment the decision is valid until April 14.

The Finnish authorities justified the closure of the checkpoint due to the flow of illegal immigrants using Russia as a transit country.
