Apple is testing various digital robots that could move into a new product category in the future, writes Bloomberg.
One of them is designated as a “mobile robot” that will “follow the user at home”, and the other is “an advanced desktop home device that uses robotics to move the eyes.”
Both projects are currently in the research phase, to which a limited number of employees are allowed.
In particular, Apple proposes to use artificial intelligence algorithms to make it easier for robots to move between different household items.
One idea for the desktop robot was to have its display simulate head movement during a FaceTime video call. However, Apple faced technical problems, weight violations.
Apple would also like to create robots that could do jobs at home, such as washing dishes, but that is unlikely to happen this decade due to “extremely complex engineering challenges.” [Bloomberg]
