However, scientists found that using just four pixels arranged in Tetris shapes provided similar accuracy in determining the direction of the radiation source. This approach is based on the development of a computer algorithm that analyzes time delays and signal intensity received by each sensor. Placing insulating material between pixels increases signal contrast and increases detection accuracy.
When testing the device on a real source of cesium radiation, scientists showed high accuracy in determining the direction and distance of the source. Experts note that the developed approach can be applied not only to gamma radiation, but also to neutrons and other types of radiation, which makes it a universal tool for detecting radiation sources in various fields of industry and security.
