The number of Russians with crypto assets at the beginning of 2024 reached 34 million people, which represents 29% of the country’s adult population. This is stated in the results of a study carried out by the cybersecurity solutions integrator Angara Security.
Compared to 2022, the number of Russian citizens owning crypto assets has increased by almost 100%.
The engine of growth was the digital financial market, the turnover of which in December 2023 amounted to 53 billion rubles. Additionally, the increase in the number of cryptocurrency investors was influenced by the increase in the number of services that accept payments in cryptocurrencies: year-on-year growth was 15-20%.
The study authors also noted an increase in the amount of illegal cryptocurrency materials on Telegram. In 2023, more than 40% of such materials were intended to commit fraudulent activities.
In Russia, the number of court cases related to cryptocurrencies has quintupled in two years. More than half of these proceedings involve bankruptcy litigation. Analysts linked the trend to the development of the crypto economy in the country.
