EP President Aleid Wolfsen emphasized the importance of user trust and said, “People who visit the government page should be sure that their personal and sensitive data is in safe hands.” The lack of clarity regarding data practices on Facebook* pages poses a major hurdle for AP.

The Dutch government appears to have taken the EP’s advice seriously. Junior Digital Minister Alexandra van Hoeffelen gave Meta* an ultimatum. By the summer, the government is expected to present concrete solutions that will alleviate concerns about data security. Otherwise, the minister warned, “We will have to stop using Facebook*.”
