The Ministry of Internal Affairs is preparing a draft amendment to GOST, according to which state car registration plates will contain an image of the Russian flag. The innovation was proposed to the department by State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein.

The Scientific Center for Road Safety of the Ministry of the Interior prepared the modifications to standard 50577-2018 “State vehicle registration signs.” According to the new rules, the image of the Russian flag must be located in the lower right corner of the poster.
According to Kommersant, the amendments are currently being discussed in technical committee No. 278 of Rosstandart “Road Safety”.
Today, you can get a number with a traffic police flag when registering a car. Car owners can obtain a combination of letters and numbers from the police, and the identification plate can be printed in a specialized organization.
In these organizations, license plates are printed with and without a flag. The second option costs 300-500 rubles more.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that it is planned to complete work on the updated GOST before the end of the year. If the amendments are adopted, the exceptions will apply only to the red license plates of diplomatic corps vehicles. In addition, the modifications will not affect owners of cars who previously received license plates without a flag.
