Imagine a train system floating silently across the lunar surface. This is the idea behind FLOAT. The magnetic robots will rest on a special three-layer track designed to minimize wear and tear from lunar dust. These robots will transport cargo cars capable of transporting up to 100 tonnes of supplies per day and support a permanent lunar base planned to be built in the 2030s.

While this idea may seem like science fiction, NASA is serious about investigating its feasibility. The train will initially travel at 1.6 km/h, but the benefits could be significant.
