The National Payment Card System (NSPC) is developing a biometric services platform. It will connect local banking solutions for bioprocurement. Vedomosti writes about this with reference to the head of the company’s biometrics directorate, Sergei Lysenko.

Currently, only 12 banks, including Sber, VTB and Alfa Bank, can offer their clients biometric payment services. Since they were accredited by the Ministry of Digital Development. To use biometric data in different banks, the customer must register and give consent to each bank separately.
The new NSPK platform will work in this way: the customer selects a convenient payment instrument and agrees to the use of such data in the bank’s application or via SBPay. Information about the payment instrument and a unique customer identifier will be transmitted and stored on the NSPK platform. When paying via biometric data, the bioacquirer will request data from NSPK to complete the transaction. This will simplify the process for customers and banks, reducing the need for complex systems.
Experts call the initiative “strange” and say the service will be used more widely “in about three to five years,” when the necessary infrastructure is created.
