The upgrade includes a redesigned battery system and electrical architecture. In particular, the new system powers the “autonomous computing module” with advanced driver assistance capabilities. The premium version offers hands-free driving for a limited time, but the driver must remain alert.
The updated R1S and R1T also feature improved battery packs that use cylindrical 2170 cells but use large, high-pressure die-cast cells to improve production and reduce weight.
The price of the new R1S model is $75,900, while the price of the R1T is $69,900.
