Baker confirmed the authenticity of the letter, saying the department’s investigation is ongoing. The accused officials, a police chief from the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) and a deputy commissioner from the Rapid Response Battalion (RAB 6), were captured after investigators analyzed NTMC system records.

NTMC, which has been criticized for not protecting against abuse, monitors telecommunications to prevent threats to national security. The officials allegedly accessed sensitive data through NTMC’s National Intelligence Platform (NIP) more frequently than their colleagues and an investigation was launched.

As a result, access to NIP for ATU and RAB 6 has been suspended.
