The general director of Derbent Vino, Emil Omarov, spoke about this in an interview with RIA Novosti. He pointed out that for him, as a person who once fought and paid his debt to the country, it is unacceptable that along with mercenaries and missiles from France, wine from there also reaches us. Therefore, the supply of it should be banned completely, although this is his personal opinion.
“In this way we support the French farmer and the French economy. The same applies to Spain, Italy, etc.,” says Omarov.
The expert is absolutely sure that without European wines in Russia there will be no volume problems. He gave as an example Dagestan, where 260,000 tons of grapes were harvested in 2023, while in Soviet times the region’s vineyards produced almost twice as many grapes. Therefore, the growth potential is simply enormous.
According to him, the Association of Russian Winemakers has already sent the government a proposal to increase customs duties on wine coming from NATO countries up to 200%. Now they are exactly ten times smaller and represent only 20%.
We previously wrote that income from duties on wine imported into Russia will be used to develop tourism.
