Nokia claims to have successfully made a phone call this Monday (10) that points to the future of telecommunications. According to the company this was the first to establish an “immersive” audio and video connection using a mobile phone.

The meeting took place between Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark and Finnish Digitalization and New Technologies Ambassador Stefan Lindström. According to the brand, the event marks the first time the high-quality technology is available in live audio and video in a phone call. An advance as important as the introduction of the monophonic telephone.

The technology used in the meeting, which did not include the videos published by Nokia, continues to be developed and is expected to be widespread in the coming years. However, the company believes this should become the standard for phone calls in the future.

What is Nokia Immersive Search?

What Nokia calls immersive search 3GPP Voice and Audio Services codec or IVAS. This is an audiovisual data transmission technology that means high quality in sound and image with minimal compression.

Its standout feature is 3D spatial audio, which gives you the feeling that the person on the other end of the line is actually close to you. Another advantage is that this standard work on any modern device with at least two microphones and meet certain technical prerequisites and 5G advanced standard connection — including mobile phones, tablets or PCs.

It’s worth remembering that Nokia was the original Finnish company that dominated the mobile phone market in the 1990s and 2000s.

Today, the focus is on infrastructure and telecommunication systems, not directly related to current Nokia smartphonesIt is licensed by HMD Global and is less and less available on the market.
