Apple’s VP of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, mentioned in a recent interview that AI-generated images will be tagged in metadata to identify their origins.
iOS 18 beta 1 introduced code that supports these features, including a “forensics” feature for tagging AI-generated images. Although Apple Intelligence tools are not yet available in the current beta, they are expected to be introduced later this year. Note that some features introduced at WWDC may not be available until 2025.
Interestingly, the mention of AI features in cloud subscription hints at possible future paid features or integrations, such as subscribing to ChatGPT Plus directly from Settings.
While iOS 18 is in developer preview, a public beta will be released next month and an official launch is planned for this fall.
