Apple has published a new support document outlining its future approach to repairing its hardware, saying that iPhones will have better support for external displays and batteries later in 2024.

Firstly, on non-original displays it will be possible to activate the True Tone function to protect your eyes:

True Tone requires a precise algorithm to operate, and it is not possible to enable default calibration for displaying indicators, which may result in unexpected behavior. For this reason, Apple disables True Tone when using an external display, but enables all other aspects of the display. In an effort to offer more comprehensive component support, starting in 2024, Apple will allow users to enable True Tone in components to achieve the best performance that can be delivered.

They will be able to deactivate True Tone on the display if the display is not working properly.

Secondly, for non-original batteries it will show the remaining capacity and the number of recharge cycles. However, the company noted that these figures may not be accurate.

Currently, battery health metrics such as maximum capacity and cycle count are not provided to users when the device has additional batteries. This is because the accuracy of these metrics cannot be verified by Apple. In fact, Apple’s internal analysis has found that some external batteries sold as new are actually remanufactured, with manufacturers manipulating battery health metrics to make them appear new. In an effort to improve battery support, starting in 2024, Apple will display battery health metrics with the understanding that Apple cannot verify the information provided.

All this new news will arrive in iOS 18 later this year. Probably, their wait is worth it after turning on the lighting system.
