In May 2024, perfume shipments decreased by 33.8% year-on-year. The trend is developing against the backdrop of a decline in consumer demand by 3-9%. This is dictated by rising prices and a failed assortment, Kommersant writes based on data from the CRPT.

In the broader perfume segment, imports fell 56% year-on-year to 372,000 bottles in May. Deliveries of eau de toilette fell 12.5% to 939,000 units and perfumed waters fell 20.1% to 2.4 million.
The head of the CRPT product group, Varvara Mikhailova, associates the decline in foreign supply and consumer demand with the growth of domestic production. In the first five months of this year, 43.9 million bottles of Russian perfumes were introduced on the market – almost 37% more than the previous year.
According to experts, there is a clear connection between brands and flavours. Well-known foreign brands have left the Russian market, and retailers have been unable to offer analogues of the popular Dior and Chanel. At the same time, Russians are looking for alternative channels to purchase their favourite fragrances: they bring them back from trips abroad or order them privately from abroad.
