AMD’s head of gaming, Renato Fragale, said work on the PS4, which has sold more than 91 million units, was one of the company’s most successful projects and helped avert financial collapse.

AMD has further strengthened its position by developing chips for the Xbox One as well as the PS4.

Millions of consoles sold, despite low margins, demonstrated AMD’s ability to create custom solutions and helped keep the company afloat.
