AMD Vice President Forrest Norrod said the company is facing a surge in demand for the supply of a large number of AI accelerators.

Such a project would be significantly larger than the current largest supercomputer, Frontier, which uses around 38,000 GPUs. At 1.2 million units, the new project would be 30 times more powerful in terms of GPUs alone.

This supercomputer is expected to cost around $18 billion. The rapid development of artificial intelligence is increasing the need for computing power, and large companies are ready to invest billions of dollars in such projects.

There is a possibility that major tech companies like Microsoft and OpenAI may choose AMD for their future supercomputers.
