The FTC’s reminder emphasizes that the anti-do-it-yourself language is inconsistent with a 1975 law that prohibits restrictions on repairs unless parts or services are provided free of charge or the FTC grants a waiver.
The commission warned that failure to comply within 30 days could result in “enforcement action.” This isn’t the first time the FTC has addressed this issue; similar warnings were sent to companies like Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft in 2018.
